2026 has been a truly linux year for me. I was determined to come out on top with linux and I have found the journey exciting and eyeopening.
My introduction to linux came through the Windows Subsystem for linux, I downloaded Ubuntu from the Microsoft store. I found it nice that I could experiment with linux without fully committing my system.
It quickly became a fun adventure. I spent hours with the command line installing software like Blender, Audacity, VLC , GNOME , Gedit and GIMP. I tinkered with programming languages such as Rust, Ruby , Python and Julia.
My initial curiosity grew into something bigger when I reimaged an old macbook into a dedicated UBUNTU machine. Using Ubuntu desktop as my main OS for my backup laptop has been incredibly helpful. I expanded my LINUX exploration by running Fedora and CentOS in Virtual-box.
Along the way, I have been warned about the rabbit hole of distro-hopping, but for now I am enjoying the ride and learning as much as I can.
I have been the catalyst behind the installation of WSL on three of my friends laptops now, and I do let them know I am available to discuss linux anytime. For now its a fun topic of conversation, having linux in my back pocket as an OS option is pretty great too.
Given the opportunities yet to be discovered by me, I’m putting myself on a strict 90 day linux jamboree.
The goal is system admin certifications and a winning shot at the lucrative linux careers.
